BOARD POSITIONS/DUTIES

Sky Valley Little League Board Positions

We are looking for any and all ideas that will benefit our players and league. If you see a need for a position that is not listed, create it and bring it to the Board's attention.

Executive Board

President

The President shall:

  1. Conduct the affairs of Sky Valley Little League and execute the policies established by the Board of Directors.
  2. Present a report of the condition of Sky Valley Little League at the Annual Meeting in September.
  3. Communicate to the Board of Directors such matters as deemed appropriate, and make such suggestions as may tend to promote the welfare of Sky Valley Little League.
  4. Be responsible for the conduct of Sky Valley Little League in strict conformity to the policies, principles, Rules and Regulations of Little League Baseball, Incorporated, as agreed to under the conditions of charter issued to the Local League by that organization.
  5. Designate in writing other officers, if necessary, to have power to make and execute for/and in the name of the Sky Valley Little League such contracts and leases they may receive and which have had prior approval of the Board.<
  6. Investigate complaints, irregularities and conditions detrimental to Sky Valley Little League and report thereon to the Board or Executive Committee as circumstances warrant.
  7. Prepare and submit an annual budget in September to the Board of Directors and be responsible for the proper execution thereof.
  8. With the assistance of the Player Agent, examine the application and support proof of age documents of every player candidate and certify to residence and age eligibility before the player may be accepted for tryouts and se-lection.

Vice President of Administration

The Vice President of Administration shall:

  1. Perform the duties of the President in the absence or disability of the President, provided he or she is authorized by the President or Board so to act. When so acting, the Vice President of Administration shall have all the powers of that office.
  2. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  3. Be responsible for the coordination and development of all aspects of the administration of SVLL.
  4. Recruit, train, assist and oversee the following (recommended but not limited) Board Director positions:
    • League Secretary
    • Director of Information
    • Director of Communication and Volunteers

Vice President of Baseball

The Vice President of Baseball shall:

  1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  2. Be responsible for the coordination and development of all aspects of the baseball divisions of SVLL.
  3. Plan, coordinate and supervise all baseball related tryouts (i.e. beginning of season and any All Star tryouts)
  4. Recruit, train, assist and oversee the following (recommended but not limited) Board Director positions:
    • Director of Juniors/Seniors Baseball
    • Director of Majors Baseball
    • Director of Minors Baseball
    • Director of Farm Baseball
    • Director of Rookies Baseball
    • Director of Fall Ball
    • Director of T-Ball
    • Director of Challenger

Vice President of Finances

The Vice President of Finances shall:

  1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  2. Be responsible for the coordination and development of all aspects of the finances of SVLL.
  3. Assist the President in preparing the yearly budget of league finances for the Annual Meeting in September and monthly budget reports for each Board of Director meeting.
  4. Recruit, train, assist and oversee the following (recommended but not limited) Board Director positions:
    • Treasurer
    • Director of Purchasing and Inventory
    • Director of Uniforms
    • Director of Sponsorships

Vice President of Operations

The Vice President of Operations shall:

  1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  2. Be responsible for the coordination and development of all aspects of the general operations of SVLL.
  3. Assist the President in the development and application of the league safety plan (ASAP).
  4. Recruit, train, assist and oversee the following (recommended but not limited) Board Director positions:
    • Director of Fields
    • Director of Safety
    • Director of Tournaments
    • Umpire in Chief

Vice President of Softball

The Vice President of Operations shall:

  1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  2. Be responsible for the coordination and development of all aspects of the softball divisions of SVLL.
  3. Plan, coordinate and supervise all softball related tryouts (i.e. beginning of season and any All Star tryouts)
  4. Recruit, train, assist and oversee the following (recommended but not limited) Board Director positions:
    • Director of Juniors/Seniors Softball
    • Director of Majors Softball
    • Director of Minors Softball
    • Director of Rookies Softball

League Player Agent

The League Player Agent shall:

  1. Serve as a member of the Executive Board and will work with other Executive Board members to provide leadership, direction and guidance for league issues and affairs.
  2. Record all player transactions and maintain an accurate and up-to-date record thereof.
  3. Receive and review applications for player candidates and assist the President in verifying residence and age eligibility.
  4. Conduct the tryouts, the player draft and all other player transaction or selection meetings.
  5. Prepare the Player Agent's list.
  6. Prepare for the President's signature and submission to Little League Headquarters, team rosters, including players' claimed, and the tournament team eligibility affidavit.
  7. Notify Little League Headquarters of any subsequent player replacements or trades.
  8. The League Player Agent may recruit, train, assist and oversee the following divisional player agents:
    • Juniors, Seniors, Big League Baseball Player Agent
    • Majors, Minors, Farm Baseball Player Agent
    • Rookies Baseball, T-Ball, Challenger Player Agent
    • Softball Player Agent

Each of these divisional player agents will have one vote each as a voting member on the Board of Directors

Board of Directors:

Secretary.

The Secretary, under the guidance of the Administrative Vice President shall:

  • Be responsible for recording the activities of the Local League and maintain appropriate files, mailing lists and necessary records.
  • Perform such duties as are herein specifically set forth, in addition to such other duties as are customarily incident to the office of Secretary.
  • Maintain a list of all Regular, Sustaining and Honorary Members, Directors and committee members and give notice of all meetings of the Local League, the Board of Directors and Committees.
  • Keep the minutes of the meetings of the Members, the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, and cause them to be recorded in a book kept for that purpose.
  • Conduct all correspondence not otherwise specifically delegated in connection with said meeting and shall be responsible for carrying out all orders, votes and resolutions not otherwise committed.

Safety Officer.

The Safety Officer, under the guidance of the Operations Vice President shall:

  1. Be responsible to create awareness, through education and information, of the opportunities to provide a safer environment for youngsters and all participants of Little League Baseball.
  2. Develop and implement a plan for increasing safety of activities, equipment and facilities through education, compliance and reporting.

NOTE: In order to implement a safety plan using education, compliance and reporting, the following suggestions may be utilized by the Safety Officer:

  1. Education - Should facilitate meetings and distribute information among participants including players, managers, coaches, umpires, league officials, parents, guardians and other volunteers.
  2. Compliance - Should promote safety compliance leadership by increasing awareness of the safety opportunities that arise from these responsibilities.
  3. Reporting - Define a process to assure that incidents are recorded, information is sent to league/district and national offices, and follow-up information on medical and other data is forwarded as available.

Equipment Director.

The Equipment Director, under the guidance of the Finance Vice President shall:

  1. Perform such duties as are herein set forth and such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.
  2. Maintain an inventory of league equipment and determine equipment requiring repair or replacement.
  3. Make requests to the executive board for the need for purchases related to league equipment.

Umpire In Chief:

This umpire-in-chief should be, as a minimum, a role model to the children, and should have basic rule knowledge as well as being able to recruit, teach or train volunteer umpires and interpret rules.

The Umpire in Chief, under the guidance of the Operations Vice President shall:

  • Train new umpires and/or managers/coaches for base umpires.
  • Schedule umpires in all or most divisions of Softball and Baseball league play and should umpire as well.
  • Establish a dress code for the volunteer umpires that will be umpiring in the local league.
  • Interface with the local league board of directors as it relates to game situation, manager/coach situations, etc.
  • Be available to debrief after games if asked by those volunteer umpires that want an evaluation.
Director of Sponsorships/ Activities:

The Director of Sponsorships, under the guidance of the Finance Vice President shall

  • Solicits and secures local sponsorships to support league operations
  • Maintains a list of interested sponsors for coaches/ managers
  • Collection and review of sponsorship and fundraising opportunities
  • Organization and implementation of approved LOCAL League fundraising activities
  • Maintains records of monies secured through sponsorship and fundraising initiatives
